When visiting Olney, be sure to look for our most popular and famous resident, the albino (white) squirrel. Since their discovery in about 1902 local residents, as well as the City of Olney, have provided extra care for our famous squirrels by providing food and shelter. When necessary the City will call on qualified individuals for squirrel rescue and rehabilitation. Please note that the White Squirrel has the right of way on all streets. The best time for viewing the squirrels is early morning and late evening. Visitors may want to feed the squirrels and thus are encouraged to feed natural foods such as nuts, seeds and fruits without added salts. But please use caution and remember "If it has a mouth, it can bite."
